The Turkish-German Energy Partnership at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue Conference 2024

From 19th -20th March 2024 members of the Turkish-German Energy Partnership’s network attended the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) Conference 2024. Under the theme "Accelerating the Global Energy Transition," ministers and high-level delegations from over 75 countries, alongside representatives from business, academia, and civil society, convened to deliberate strategies for tripling global renewable energy capacity.

 

Representatives from SHURA Energy Transition Center, STEAG, ISKEN Enerji, GIZ Türkiye, the German-Turkish Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK) and dena, among others from the Turkish-German Energy Partnership’s wide network participated in this pivotal event, contributing their expertise and commitment to advancing the global energy transition.

 

The Cooperation Dialogues took place on 21st March within the framework of the BETD, as part of Berlin Energy Week. Here the Turkish-German Energy Partnership was also represented in several panels. In the panel “Climate Club – Supporting industry decarbonisation in emerging and developing countries”, Değer Saygın, Programme Lead of the OECD’s Clean Energy Finance and Investment Mobilisation (CEFIM) contributed his perspective on the challenges of decarbonising the industry sector as well as the sources of finance and instruments to finance industry decarbonisation.

 

Sedef Budak, Founder and Chair of the Green Collar Women Association (GCWA), gave a keynote speech in the panel “Powering Progress in the Energy Transition: The Role of Women in Green Jobs and Technological Innovation”. She presented the impactful work of organisations like the GCWA and Turkish Women in Renewables and Energy (TWRE), emphasising collaboration and passion as drivers of change. She also presented a summary of the results of the latest 2023 report on Gender Equality in the Turkish Energy Sector, making a number of suggestions to improve gender equality in Türkiye’s energy workforce.
