Accelerating the Use of Concentrated Solar Thermal and Agrivoltaics in Türkiye and Germany

As part of this year’s Intersolar Europe conference in Munich, the Turkish-German Energy Partnership hosted a networking event on 8th May, 2025 in cooperation with the German Solar Association (BSW). The session, titled “Accelerating the Use of Concentrated Solar Thermal and Agrivoltaics in Türkiye and Germany”, brought together 30 experts and stakeholders from both countries and beyond, representing ministries, associations, academia, startups, and industry.

The event opened with a deep dive into the untapped potential of CST for renewable industrial process heat. Representatives of the Turkish-German Energy Partnership then presented the results of two recent CST potential analyses developed within the Partnership, with a focus on the food processing industry in both Türkiye and Germany.

The discussions reinforced that CST is a technologically mature and cost-effective solution for industrial applications in both Türkiye and Germany. What is now needed is targeted policy support and practical examples that demonstrate feasibility and scalability.

The second part of the session focused on the current state and regulatory frameworks for agrivoltaics, exploring opportunities and barriers in both countries. Highlights included:

A presentation on the status quo of the implementation and regulation of agrivoltaics in Germany

Research findings on agrivoltaics implementation potential and the role of agrivoltaics in Türkiye

Discussion of the importance of tailored policy recommendations to encourage uptake

The event concluded with a clear message: The technologies are ready, and the industry is willing. What is now required are:

  • Clear political frameworks
  • Pilot projects with replicable learnings
  • Continued cross-border collaboration
  • Financial incentives and support to further expand projects in the two countries

These themes will continue to guide the work of the Turkish-German Energy Partnership in the coming months. The two CST potential analyses will be published soon and form the basis for further dialogue and action.

The Turkish-German Energy Partnership would like to once again thank all speakers and participants for their contributions, insights and cooperation.
