4th Turkish-German Energy Forum
On 11th October, 2022, Berlin hosted the 4th Turkish-German Energy Forum under the banner “Energy in Transition – Moving Towards Net Zero.” The forum brought together 400 key figures from politics, business, and civil society to tackle the pressing challenge of achieving climate-neutral energy systems in both Türkiye and Germany.
A major highlight was the signing of a joint declaration by Germany’s Federal Minister of Economics, Dr. Robert Habeck, and Türkiye’s Minister of Energy, Fatih Dönmez. The agreement sets the stage for deeper cooperation on green hydrogen, backed by the creation of a specialized Task Force within the Turkish-German Energy Partnership to drive progress.
Another milestone was the signing of an MoU between Kalyon Güneş Teknolojileri Üretim and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, focusing on cutting-edge research in agrivoltaics and integrated energy storage solutions.
Experts from the Energy Partnership Working Groups presented and debated developments in Türkiye’s and Germany’s energy landscapes in panels, covering topics such as how to ramp up the hydrogen market, how to enhance sector coupling and to increase energy efficiency in the public sector. These discussions not only addressed policy but delved into practical solutions, offering real insights into how both countries can lead the energy transition. Participants also had the opportunity to join sessions on ESCOs, the German Energy Solutions initiative, the H2Uppp programme, and the role of women in shaping the energy future.
The official part of the Energy Forum was followed by a lively network exchange, sparking new collaborations and ideas among the stakeholders of this vital partnership.
